Nancy Jones is fascinated by singers and singing. After earning her Bachelor of Music Degree at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (now the University of Cincinnati) she followed Margaret Thuenemann to the plains of southeast Kansas and began a life long relationship with this Master Teacher. Nancy earned her Equity card performing with the St. Louis Municipal Opera (The Muny) singing and dancing in twenty-four Broadway musicals. Moving across the state to Kansas City, she earned her AGMA card singing with the Kansas City Lyric Opera for over twenty years. In Kansas City she became a well-known stage presence, performing featured roles, comprimario roles and ensemble under the baton of Russell Patterson. (See Performances) In recital, Nancy emphasizes the weaving together of music and drama, enhancing poetry and words through song. As a teacher, she spent forty years at colleges and universities, sharing her love of singing by teaching fundamental vocal technique and an expanse of vocal literature.
She has been a solo artist with the Kansas City Philharmonic, the Kansas City Symphony and the Missouri River Festival. She has toured France and Germany in solo appearances and has recorded for RCA Red Seal and Desto. An artist known for her versatility, Nancy has sung with Tex Ritter on the Ozark Jubilee for national television, in avant garde premieres, and in standard recital and oratorio repertoire.
Nancy Jones is a member of NATS, The National Association of Teachers of Singing. Her students have found employment in opera houses in Obernhausen, Augsburg, Kansas City, Boston, and New York. They have sung in Kansas City dinner theatres, Los Angeles supper clubs, Worlds of Fun, Epcot Center, the David Letterman Show, with the Boston "Pops" Orchestra, on Broadway, and with the Barry Manilow International Tour. Her students have been her professional life. Her personal life includes her husband, Russell, Beverly and her family in New Zealand, and Steve and his wife, Tracy, in Rocheport, Missouri.
